Cacure San Valentine -- short film

A fun little short by Luis Angel Villalobos. I love the texture and hand made paper look of this. The timing of the animation to the music is neatly handled. The characters have simple expressions, but they read. This is another great example of finding the right match between visual style, motion and story.

Cute. But it just reminds me of rough version of Pocoyo, same bird design, same style of animation, just not as spontanious. Obviously they've been inspired by Pocoyo but I think it needed to fall further from the tree in order to be considered original.

I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't bought this guys services to help them with the next version of Viva Pinata :)

while i've never seen Pocoyo, i'm not sure that it matters if it's original or not. how do you define original? its brilliantly and masterfully crafted. i feel it probably accomplishes what the story teller was intending to communicate - and they've done it without a lot of extraneous motion or actions. it's so natural for an animator to want to "animate everything everywhere", but in order to read well on screen, or even in real life, subtlety can not be understated. this also actively engages the viewer, as if you're not devoting all your attention to analyze the situation, you'll completely miss the whole story.

anyway, thanks for posting this keith! where do you find these little gems?
