Ordered mine today...

I finally have a good reason to check the mail each day as I wait for this to show up.

A little anecdote- about two years back I posted some Eric Goldberg notes on my blog that I got from Tim Hodge- which he got from somebody at Disney. Anyhow, a member of Eric's family (I think it was his daughter, can't remember now) emailed me and very sweetly asked me to take the notes down. The reason? Eric was writing a book! I was more than happy to take down the notes knowing that this genius of animation was writing a book. And now it's supposed to be shipping this month. Yay!

Yeah I reordered mine weeks ago. Got a message from Amazon yesterday saying that they still hadn't been able to get one for me but they'll keep trying.

Rock on book AND DVD!

And I also managed to get Eric's notes a while back and they were a photocopy of a photocopy on PDF, almost unreadable o_0. I realise that they didn't want them spread around when the book was coming out but if the book wasn't going to be as good as the notes then it should be their responsibility to make it better (and it looks like it will be heaps better) so I don't see why we should not be allowed to share publicly available notes. But the books here so the notes may now be redundant anyway but that doesn't mean they should disappear.

I've been waiting for this since they first put the pre order on Amazon. It promises to be a great resource to complement The 'Illusion of Life', right through to 'Acting for animators' and everyone's favourite travel companion 'Animators survival Kit'...

Can't wait! Can't wait! Can't wait!! AAAHHHHH...

I'm excited about the release of "Character Animation Crash Course" as well. Also, last week sometime a colleague sent me a link to the recently released "Animator's Survival Toolkit - Animated DVD" collection. 16 DVDs of great animation information from the man himself. It is nearly $1500 - but I'm still hoping to buy it. What are your thoughts?

Seeing that presto short, waiting for The goldburg book w/ dvd, and the Williams Seminars on dvd.
Is making it an outstanding year. Thank you god.

I think the Williams stuff will be entertaining and educational. If he tells half the stories he did in his old 3 day seminars it'll be great. I already can tell from the samples that it will be pretty cool to see his examples and such played out in a way that can be seen well. His old 3 day seminars sometimes it was hard to see what he was doing. Still, it's a lot of money, but I think it'd be worth it if you applied everything.

I just got mine in the mail!!!

I had a quick flick through and then had a look at the CD that's included and was stopped in my tracks. A lot of the examples on the CD don't really work well at all and there are parts where the animation just looks plain amateurish (in terms of quality of force and movement not character design). For example his "bash down the door" example doesn't really work at all after he hits the door and continues through it because he's used up all his forward energy and then shoots off again after hitting it. Another example is the smear drawing of the dog/wolf, where the second smear seems too long and makes the animation seem to stutter through the motion instead of feeling smooth.

It's a well written, well laid out book though but from some one like Eric Goldberg who I'm told is amazing at animation I thought there wouldn't be low level mistakes like the previous examples through it.
