"Yellow Cake" by Nick Cross

Saw this over on the Cartoon Brew, but I liked it so much I wanted to re-post it here. The background paintings in this are absolutely fantastic. They're just great. The story is a little dark, but it rings true. Overall it's a great and satisfying effort by a lone filmmaker.

Wow, you implied that he made it all by his lonesome? Extremely well executed. Love the irony.

Yeah, that's the impression I got from his blog. I admit I didn't read every post super thoroughly, but I got the sense that this was all him. It's inspiring. I read an interview in a mag where he basically says he just keeps his head down and works his way thru his short film, else he'd get overwhelmed with how much work is involved. I can identify with that 10000%.

That was hard-hitting. I had to go watch some TV for escape after it was done (just like the end of the short itself).

It's inspiring to see old school animation successfully convey modern themes. Brilliantly done.

I'm not sure whether I'm a mouse baker thing or a cat giant thing, or which I'd rather be.
