Pivot

I've been away, busy with a big cross-country move and the new job at Valve (which is going awesome, by the way!). Thought I'd come back with a post highlighting this really sharp short film. I love so much about this one. Enjoy!

Reminds me of these Honda Crosstour commercials I've been seeing on the idjit box:

SnowTour

Instruments

Looks like they actually animated a poly optimizer tool to create funky effects.

Happy New Year Keith, and Congrats on your new job. Wow.. very Aven- garde stuff on this short, really pushing the envelope on what can be done, very encouraging.

It's unfortunate that Pivot's visual style is so compelling and yet the story is the exact opposite. A Gobelins-type chase scene with a loop ending, both staples of short films that don't know what to do with themselves. Props to the creators for the visuals, but I really wish this had more meat to it.

Smooth less modelling gives impotent to the animation,
Story is a loop, situation makes every thing. I really enjoyed it.

I thought the surreal, sometimes abstract surroundings worked well to evoke a mood of fear. However I agree with Jim that the run/loop ending is a very "student-thinks-it's-clever" cliche that has been done far too many times and I find am very tired of seeing.

Good job on the visual style and the animation though, both fit together very well.

'twas awesome. I couldn't help but thinking that this was reminiscent of work coming out of Supinfocom. Does anyone know if that's true? It is a French film....

No, it`s a short produced and animated by a young dutch team...check out their blog: http://pivotthemovie.com/

Even though the ending was predictable, I love the look of the film. Pretty fun overall.

Excellent, love the surreal animation in this one. Great camera usage. Saw this a little ways back when VIMEO put together their top 25 videos of 2009, good stuff!
